A 13-year-old was killed in a crash in Goodyear Monday that sent six additional people to the hospital.

Goodyear police say around 7:45 p.m., a vehicle was sitting at a red light near Yuma Road and Village Boulevard when it was hit from behind by a truck that failed to stop for the light.

The 13-year-old, identified as Edgar Nunez-Hernandez, was taken to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive.

ABC15 spoke to a family friend Tuesday night who tells us Edgar was a "brilliant kid with an amazing future." She also told us Edgar was gearing up to start 8th grade this Fall.

He was a passenger in the vehicle that was stopped at the light, along with two adults and an 11-year-old child.

A 30-year-old man was driving the truck that failed to stop and had a five-year-old and three-year-old in the vehicle as well.

Everyone else taken to the hospital is expected to make a full recovery, according to police.

Police say a criminal investigation is underway, but police say it does not appear impairment was a factor in the crash.

A GoFundMe has since been set up for the funeral service of Nunez-Hernandez.
