Police are investigating after a 2-year-old boy was shot and killed in a Buckeye neighborhood Friday afternoon.

Air15 video showed multiple emergency units and patrol cars staged outside a home near Yuma and Watson roads around 4:30 p.m.

Buckeye police confirmed Sunday that a 2-year-old boy was found with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene by rescue crews.

Det. Tamela Skaggs on Sunday said the boy's 26-year-old mother was taken to the hospital with multiple stab wounds.

The woman's name has not been released. Officials say she is still at the hospital and is considered a person of interest in the case.

Skaggs said police are not searching for any suspects in connection with the incident.
