BUCKEYE, AZ — Buckeye fire officials say an 8-year-old girl was found unresponsive along Interstate 10 in the West Valley overnight.

Just before midnight Monday, crews were called to eastbound I-10 and Miller Road for a reported injured person. At the scene, they found a child in the second lane of traffic.

DPS says an 8-year-old girl had fallen out of a minivan. Troopers say the girl was moving inside the vehicle when the sliding passenger-side door opened "for an unknown reason."

Fire officials say the child was unresponsive and had suffered cuts and bruises.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say the child was taken to Phoenix Children's and was in serious condition as of Tuesday evening.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating.
