The Avondale Fire Department says two elderly people have been taken to the hospital in critical condition after a mobile home fire.
The fire happened near MC 85 and Litchfield Road around 8:30 a.m and destroyed three mobile homes.
The two elderly people transported suffered serious burn injuries, officials said. Several other people were treated for smoke inhalation.
The fire department believes the fire started with some sort of explosion in one of the mobile homes before spreading to two others nearby.
The fire is also being treated as a HAZMAT scene, but details as to what led to the original explosion were not released as of 3 p.m. Officials said police and fire were both investigating.
A statement from the American Red Cross said team members were assisting nine people displaced as a result of the fire.
