Police have identified the Avondale boy killed in a shooting on Wednesday.
Avondale police identified the boy as 5-year-old Savier Jones.
The shooting happened on Wednesday morning near Central Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.
Avondale officials said Jones was killed from a gunshot wound to the head. Police officers attempted life-saving efforts on the boy after they were called to the home. Once fire officials arrived, the boy was taken to a hospital where he passed away.
Police said the boy was at home with his mom and two siblings at the time of the shooting. The boy went into a bedroom and found a 9mm semi-automatic handgun that belonged to his father. The father was not at home at the time of the shooting.
Police said the boy's mother heard a noise and walked into the room where she found her injured son.
