AVONDALE, AZ — Impairment is being investigated by detectives after one person was killed and another was seriously hurt in a multi-vehicle crash in Avondale Saturday morning.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, around 4:20 a.m., deputies came upon a crash involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck at the intersection of Avondale Boulevard and Lower Buckeye Road.
Officials say it appeared that the pickup truck had collided with the rear of the semi-truck.
A female passenger inside the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. A second female passenger from the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officials say the male passenger and male driver of the pickup truck were taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt in the incident.
No further information was immediately available.
