AVONDALE, AZ — Firefighters are working to contain a fire that ignited in brush near ISM Raceway on Thursday.
The fire burned and quickly grew in brush near El Mirage Road and the Gila River bottom.
The flames sent up a large column of black and gray smoke that could be seen across the Valley.
Firefighters asked people to avoid the area, and urged anyone with breathing issues to stay inside.
There was no immediate information on how the fire started or how large it had grown.
