TEMPE, AZ — Over 14,000 Arizona children experience foster care. On Saturday, Tonto Creek Camp, along with First Star ASU Academy, held a workshop to provide resources for those children.

First Star ASU Academy allows children to have mentorship throughout high school and college. The kids attend get-togethers like Tonto Creek Camp and have regular meetings where they learn valuable skills to help them be successful.

"It's assigned to be a long term support for students who've experienced foster care," Program Director Gabriela Jimenez said.

One of the students who has benefitted from the program is Parker Lopez who now has dreams of going to college.

"I was scared of going here so I tried to close myself off a lot but in the end, it was the best place for me," Lopez said.
