Police responded to Broadway Road and Kachina Drive after reports of a shot fired.

According to the Tempe Police Department, an armed suspect 24 years of age barricaded himself after what sounded like a shot fired to witnesses.

Police said the man was breaking glass with a crow bar at an apartment complex called Coronado Apartments.

Police tracked down the man inside an apartment and asked him to come out, but he initially refused and said he had a gun. Nearby apartments were evacuated at this moment.

Police were able to convince the man to come outside where he was detained as his apartment was searched. No weapon was found, but walls were heavily damaged inside the residence as well as a shattered front window, broken glass tables and a TV which was also shattered.

The suspect was taken into custody and told police he had mental health problems. There were no injuries during the incident, and residents were allowed back into their homes.

The man will be facing charges of disorderly conduct and criminal damage, police said.
