GUADALUPE, AZ — A Guadalupe woman is recovering after being shot six times by her brother.

On July 9, deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office took 32-year-old Nathaniel Zack Lopez into custody following a five-hour-long standoff near Avenida Del Yaqui and Calle Sonora (south of Priest and Baseline).

Lopez was reportedly in an argument with a female friend when things got physical. His sister intervened and threatened to call the police and have Lopez returned to prison, according to witnesses.

Lopez then allegedly fired several shots, hitting his sister six times in both shoulders, chest, abdomen, and thigh.

He allegedly told his mother, "I'm sorry, mom," before leaving home.

Court records show that Lopez's sister is now in stable condition.

Following the shooting, Lopez barricaded himself in a nearby home but was taken into custody after the standoff.

Authorities say when he was arrested, Lopez accused his sister of making false allegations against him to get thrown back into prison.

He was given a $100,000 bond for aggravated assault and attempted first-degree murder.
