TEMPE, AZ — On a scorching hot Arizona afternoon, Senator Kyrsten Sinema ditches her sparkling heels for flats and carefully climbs a ladder at Tempe's Four Peaks Brewing Company.

She's here to brew beer - her beer - a caramel coffee IPA. It will be entered into a national competition sponsored by Anheuser-Busch.

The "Beer Across America" competition has been bringing Democrats and Republicans together since 2017. Less than a dozen members of Congress, from around the nation are invited to participate in the annual event.

It culminates next month in Washington DC, where a winner will be chosen among the professional politicians turned amateur brewers.

For Sen. Sinema, it's an opportunity to showcase an Arizona success story. Four Peaks Brewing Company was founded in Tempe in the mid-90s on the site of a former creamery and warehouse. It's gone on to win numerous industry awards.

Sinema hopes her caramel coffee IPA will be the next when Beer Across America crowns a winner next month.
