A Mesa man is behind bars for allegedly assaulting his own mother.

Patrick McIntyre, 50, is the primary caregiver for his 80-year-old mother and he's accused of pulling her off the couch by her hair, according to court documents.

Police were called to a home near Main and Greenfield on Dec. 27 regarding a family fight.

When officers arrived, McIntyre answered the door, but he refused to come out. As the door was opened, police noticed an elderly woman lying on the floor.

Police said he even fought officers as they tried to get into the home. Once they did, the woman could barely speak or stand, according to reports.

Court records show McIntyre has a history of domestic violence involving his mother. He was previously convicted for throwing a bottle of vodka at her and hitting her in the face.

He was booked into jail on charges of adult abuse, aggravated assault on an officer and criminal damage.
