Authorities say the suspect sought after a shooting Monday night has been arrested.

Around 8 p.m., officers responded to a neighborhood near Country Club Drive and Brown Road for a report of shots fired.

Officers arrived to find a victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound. On Tuesday authorities identified the victim as Oscar Pacheco and said he remained in critical condition at the hospital with several gunshot wounds.

Witnesses told police Pacheco argued with the suspect and then heard several gunshots before the suspect took off in a truck with a trailer attached, according to an update from the Mesa Police Department.

Police took the suspect, Jose Eladio Castro-Valenzuela, into custody and say he admitted to shooting Pacheco. Investigators say the victim is the ex-boyfriend of Castro-Valenzuela's current girlfriend. Officials believe the shooting to be an isolated incident.

Castro-Valenzuela was booked for one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a Class 3 felony.
