A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping three people in Mesa on Wednesday.

Mesa police say late Wednesday afternoon, officers got a report of a possible kidnapping. Family members arrived at a home near University and Mesa Drives to find their family members missing.

A short time later, officials received a phone call that the three victims were being held against the will.

Detectives with the Mesa Police Department followed up and found the victims, an adult baby sitter, a 17-year-old boy and 3-year-old boy at a house near 32nd Street and Chipman Road.

Authorities say all three victims were unharmed.

Police do not believe the victims were randomly selected by the suspect.

According to police, initial information indicated that drug activity was a motive for the kidnapping.

Mesa police said the suspect's name will not be released at this time. If he is transferred to adult court, his name and mugshot will be released.

Initially, four people were detained, the remaining suspects were interviewed and released.
