CHANDLER, AZ — Two people were taken to the hospital Monday evening after being hit by a car.

According to Chandler police, the two pedestrians were heading west on Fairview Street (just north of Pecos Road) approaching Arizona Avenue around 5:50 p.m.

Police say the pair, a 19-year-old and 48-year-old men, were hit by a vehicle also heading west. The 48-year-old was in a wheelchair, police said. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Investigators have ruled out impairment as a factor in the collision, and say the driver told them the sun was in their eyes and the crash happened as they were lowering the visor.

The pedestrians suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Further details about the crash were not immediately available.
