PD: One dead after shooting in Chandler

CHANDLER, AZ — Chandler police are investigating a deadly shooting that took place Monday night.

Officials were called to the area of Colorado and Elgin streets, near Arizona Avenue and Frye Road, around 9 p.m. for what police initially called a "serious critical incident."

Police later said a shooting involving two people took place, leaving one person dead. That victim was identified Wednesday, as 50-year-old Michael Payne.

The other involved person is reportedly in police custody, but no arrests have been made.

No one else is believed to have been involved in the shooting and there is no community threat. The investigation is ongoing.
