CHANDLER, AZ — Chandler police are investigating a homicide that took place near Price Road and Chandler Boulevard early Sunday morning.

According to Chandler police, they responded to a call around 5 a.m. after a woman reportedly called 911 "hysterical," saying someone in the home had been shot.

When police arrived, they found 31-year-old Elshaymaa Elmesilhy unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest. Elmesilhy was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Investigators learned that Elmesilhy's husband, 37-year-old Mustafa Hussein, had previously arrived home and was in the process of unloading his firearm and inadvertently shot his wife, Elmesilhy.

After the initial shot, police say Hussein accidentally fired another round into the bedroom floor, then called 911 with Elmesilhy's sister, who was staying at the home with the couple and their two young children.

Hussein was booked into jail and is facing a second-degree murder charge, police say.
