A 15-year-old girl has been taken to the hospital after being shot in West Phoenix Thursday evening.

According to Phoenix police officials, the teen received a critical gunshot injury after being shot near 71st Avenue and Indian School Road.

Police say officers responded to reports of a fight in a nearby park.

Phoenix police interviewed a witness who said a 15-year-old girl fired shots as she was leaving in a vehicle. Unknown suspects reportedly caught up to the vehicle the girl was riding in, rammed her vehicle and shot at her. After the suspect rammed the vehicle, the girl's vehicle then struck a school bus.

Police say two adults and one child were on the bus at the time of the crash but were not injured.

A teen who did not want to be identified says she was outside when she heard arguing.

She told ABC15 she heard gunshots and ran out to see the car crashed into the bus, adding that she saw the teen victim sitting upright with her hand on her head and blood everywhere.  She said hours later she realized that the girl was a friend of her sisters.

“She was sitting down on the floor with blood and then she has her hand like right where her head is at,” said the teen. “She wasn’t the type of girl who would like make trouble out of nowhere. She would always have brass knuckles with her and guns with her just to defend herself.”

Police are attempting to locate outstanding suspects. Detectives are assisting in the investigation.
