PHOENIX — A woman is facing charges for allegedly trying to rob a driver in the west Valley.

Phoenix police say 27-year-old Denise Orellana approached a driver for a ride just after 7:00 p.m. Saturday.

Once inside the vehicle police say Orellan pulled out a gun, pointed it at the 23-year-old male driver and demanded his property. The victim tried to grab the gun and it went off.

During the struggle the driver hit a second vehicle near 51st Avenue and McDowell.

After the crash, authorities say Orellana tried to run away but was stopped by witnesses who held her until police arrived.

She was arrested and is being charged with armed robbery, theft of means, and weapons violations.

It's unclear if anybody was hurt.
