A collision involving two cars at an intersection in Phoenix has killed a 40-year-old woman.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, around 1 p.m. at 67th Avenue and Thomas Road a Nissan and a Chevrolet Tahoe collided.

The passenger of the Nissan was taken to a hospital, but died from her injuries.

The Phoenix Fire Department said the driver of the Nissan was also transported to a hospital in stable condition. The driver of the Tahoe was not injured in the crash.

Police said the Nissan was traveling south and was waiting to make a left turn at the intersection. While the driver was waiting for northbound traffic to clear, the Nissan made the turn and was then struck by the Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling northbound.

Investigators with the police department are looking into the cause of the collision, and they don't know whether impairment played a role.
