McDowell attempted robbery, arrests
On Friday morning, the stolen vehicle led police on a pursuit until pulling off of Interstate 10 and exiting on 43rd Avenue. Three suspects bailed out of the car and went into an apartment complex in the area of 39th Avenue and McDowell Road.
Police say two men and one woman then tried to rob a man who was sitting in his car at the apartment complex. The man was pistol whipped, and that's when the victim rammed his car into other vehicles trying to get away from his attackers. A shot was fired, but no one was hit by the bullet. Several vehicles were damaged.
Police chased the three suspects who all ran in different directions. All three were detained, and the gun used during the attack was located. Another suspect was also taken into custody in the parking lot of the apartment complex, their connection to any of the crimes is unknown. Police say one individual who was handcuffed was able to get away from a police officer but was then detained a second time.
