PHOENIX — Police have arrested two people for shooting and killing a man Monday evening.

Officers responded to a parking lot near 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road for a report of a shooting. They arrived to find a man, later identified as 39-year-old Thomas Polimeni, critically injured. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police said one of the suspects, 35-year-old Adrian Escobedo, was threatening another person when Polimeni went to confront him about the threats. Both Esocbedo and Polimeni had guns in their waistbands, according to a release from the Phoenix Police Department.

A second suspect, 32-year-old Tina Gutierrez, was sitting in a vehicle close by and, along with Escobedo, pointing weapons at Polimeni. Police say Escobedo shot Polimeni before driving off with Gutierrez.

Investigators were able to track the suspects and arrested them around 5 a.m. Tuesday. Both have been charged with first degree murder and armed robbery, among other charges.
