Phoenix police officer hit during crash investigation, driver later arrested for DUI

A police officer was taken to a hospital with serious injuring after being struck by an impaired driver in Phoenix. 

According to the Phoenix Police Department, around 8:30 p.m. officers were near 50th and Lower Buckeye avenues investigating a four-car collision.  

A police cruiser was blocking the westbound traffic on Lower Buckeye Avenue as officers continued their investigation when an unrelated vehicle collided with the police cruiser.  

The police cruiser was struck on the driver's side after the vehicle failed to stop. 

The officer inside the vehicle was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He has since been released.

Police say the suspect driver was not injured and was arrested for DUI.
