PHOENIX — Police say a man has been arrested after a teen boy died and a second man was hospitalized in a shooting at Desert Sky Mall.

Phoenix police said they have arrested 20-year-old Alexi Acosta who was booked for murder and aggravated assault charges.

On February 14, officers responded to the mall near 75th Avenue and Thomas Road around 12:40 p.m. When police arrived on scene, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police say the incident started with an argument between the two men and a kiosk store employee over merchandise.

Authorities say one of the two customers displayed a handgun before the kiosk worker used his own weapon and shot the two people.

Police have identified the individual who died as 17-year-old Alejandro Martinez.

Officials say the employee is cooperating with police as they continue to investigate and no arrests have been made as of Monday afternoon.

The second person shot, a 20-year-old man, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but is expected to survive, according to police.
