PHOENIX — A motorcyclist is fighting to survive after a traffic collision in West Phoenix Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the scene near 51st Avenue and Watkins Street around 4 p.m.
Police say a Lincoln Town Car failed to yield while attempting to make a left turn into a parking lot of a convenience store. The motorcycle rider, 23-year-old Avery Whitley, was traveling northbound and collided with the Town Car as the vehicle was turning, according to Phoenix Police Detecive Luis Samudio.
Whitley was wearing a helmet but suffered life threatening injuries, said Samudio.
North and southbound traffic between Watkins Street and Lower Buckeye Road was shut down while crews worked to clear the scene.
Due to a traffic collision on 51st Avenue, traffic will be shut down both north and southbound between Watkins and Lower Buckeye Road for an extended period of time.

Phoenix police say no criminal charges are pending for the 60-year-old driver of the Town Car.
