PHOENIX — One man is dead, and two others are critically injured following a crash near 60th Drive and Thomas Road early Sunday morning.

According to Phoenix police, a Nissan Pathfinder was traveling westbound on Thomas Road, when it veered into the eastbound on-coming traffic and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Suburban.

Police say the 27-year-old driver of the Pathfinder, later identified as Rodolfo Gaitan Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene. His passengers, a 28-year-old woman and young child, were taken to an area hospital in extremely critical condition.

The 60-year-old driver of the Suburban was seriously injured, but did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

Police say the passengers in the Suburban, a 19-year-old man and 27-year-old woman, were not injured.

At this time, it's unclear if impairment was a factor in the crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
