A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition Monday morning after he was hit by a vehicle, authorities said.
Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Howard said via email that the man was not expected to survive. The man was not identified.
The crash happened near 40th Avenue and Van Buren shortly before 4 a.m. Howard said the man was crossing mid-block when he was struck by the driver of a white passenger van, which fled the scene, but was later located nearby.
It was not clear if the suspect was located and/or arrested.
Phoenix police said Van Buren would be closed between 40th and 45th avenues.
