A west Phoenix home has been declared a total loss after a fire on Sunday morning.

Just after 12:30 a.m. crews from the Phoenix Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire near 83rd Avenue and Camelback Road.

According to information from the scene, firefighters received a call about smoke coming from the roof of the home.

As crews arrived, the residents were outside of the home while one of the residents was on the roof with a garden hose trying to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters then got the resident to come down from the roof.

The attic of the home was reportedly the main area of the fire as it quickly spread to the rest of the house.

Firefighters took an offensive strategy to battle the flames and rescued a dog from the backyard of the home.

The origin and cause of the fire are unknown at this time.
