Police are investigating after a man was found unresponsive in a canal in Tolleson Wednesday night.
The Tolleson Fire Department was called to the area of 99th Avenue and McDowell Road around 8:30 p.m. after the man was found in the water without a pulse.
The victim was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead, a Phoenix Fire spokesperson said.
Authorities checked to see if there were any other people in the water as a precaution but no one else was located.
Police said Wednesday that the man is believed to be in his mid-forties. There were no obvious signs of trauma on the man's body and a death investigation is underway.
