A Phoenix police officer killed in the line of duty two years ago had his name immortalized with the naming of an athletics complex on Thursday.

"Living life was always huge for David," said Kristen Glasser.

But since her late husband's passing, Glasser says life hasn't been easy.

"It's very tough," said Glasser.

In 2016, Phoenix Police Officer David Glasser was gunned down while responding to a burglary near 51st Avenue and Baseline Road.

His death is still difficult for Kristin to talk about, but she says on this day, David would have been full of joy.

"He would be so proud, I know he's watching," said Glasser as she watched the David Glasser Athletic Complex in Laveen open for business.

"You have to have an outlet for kids, you can't just be rigid about work and school, they have to have a way to be able to play and let off some of that aggression, and here in south Phoenix, that's a great thing," said one parent watching her child use the field.

Glasser was a standout athlete at Moon Valley High School. Attendees at the ceremony said they were touched by the fallen officer's dedication to the sports community.

"It really touched my heart that he was a kind-hearted person and put his heart on the field." said one young athlete.

"We have a football, soccer combo field that can be used for either sport and then we also have two baseball fields," said Communications Coordinator Kristen Landry.

The complex is built on the site of the old Laveen School; serving several youth sports leagues.

"I always go back to the young man who took David's life and think had he had a positive interaction with an officer as he was growing up, would he have still made that same decision," said Glasser.
