An 18-year-old man is in custody for allegedly shooting two people in south Phoenix on Monday afternoon after a fight broke out.

Just after 1 p.m. police responded to the Circle K at 7th Street and Broadway Road for a report of a shooting.

As officers arrived, they located a 23-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman who had suffered gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told police that Naki Trussell and several other men arrived at the Circle K and began to argue with the male victim and another man.

Police say the argument escalated and shots were fired, the male victim and the unrelated female victim, who was a customer at the store, were struck by gunfire.

Officers then identified Trussell as the suspected shooter. He was located away from the scene and was taken into custody without incident.

He has been booked into jail for one count of aggravated assault and one count of attempted murder in the second degree.

Police say they arrested two other men involved and detained them at the juvenile correction center on unrelated warrants.

Detectives from the Phoenix police Gang Unit are continuing to investigate the shooting.
