Authorities say impairment is suspected in a crash that killed a person in Phoenix early Saturday morning.

Police were called to the area of 75th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road around 2 a.m. after receiving reports of an accident involving a car and a semi-trailer.

When officers arrived at the scene, it was discovered that a car was heading southbound on 75th Avenue when it struck the semi-trailer that was turning left into a private driveway, a police spokesperson said.

The passenger in the car died at the scene and the driver was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The driver of the semi-trailer did not suffer serious injuries and remained at the scene during the investigation.
