PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating a death at the Ocotillo Apartments near 19th and Missouri avenues.

According to Sgt. Tommy Thompson a woman called police just before midnight Saturday to report her 32-year-old son locked himself in the bathroom.

When officers arrived they found him lying on the bathroom floor with a broken toilet and broken mirrors.

He was placed in handcuffs as a precaution and taken to the living room.

That's when authorities say officers noticed discharge from his mouth and called paramedics.

When crews from the Phoenix Fire Department arrived they provided first aid to the man and administered Narcan, a tool used to treat drug overdoses.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A medical examiner is working to learn the exact cause of death.

Phoenix PD says there was no struggle between the man and officers. During their investigation police say they found guns, drugs and paraphernalia in the apartment.

It's unclear if the man lived at the apartment or was visiting his mother there.
