PHOENIX — A man has been cited for driving under the influence after colliding with a Phoenix fire engine near 32nd Avenue and Indian School Road early Saturday morning.

Officials say the collision occurred at around 2:00 a.m. when a 43-year-old man in a Chevy Tahoe crashed into the rear end of a fire engine that was not responding to a call.

The truck then drove into a light pole on the south side of the road, where it finally stopped.

The driver was evaluated and treated by fire personnel involved in the collision.

The man suffered non-life threatening injures and the firefighters did not suffer any injuries as a result of the collision.

When officers arrived on the scene, they established probable cause and cited the driver for driving impaired.

He has been charged with extreme driving under the influence.
