A 21-year-old driver is in the hospital Thursday morning after a crash involving a semi truck in north Phoenix.

The crash happened near the intersection of Glendale and Central avenues. Police say the driver ran a red light headed westbound before slamming into a semi-truck. Police say he was driving a silver Toyota Camry.

The driver suffered head injuries and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say speed and intoxication were not a factor and believe the driver may have been fatigued. They added that no erratic driving was seen before the collision.

According to information at the scene, the semi truck likely wasn't going faster than 30 miles per hour and the truck driver was able to stop quickly.

Central Avenue was reopened just before 9 a.m.
