PHOENIX — Southbound Interstate 17 was shut down at Loop 303 throughout the morning due to a deadly crash involving a pedestrian.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say they received reports of a person running into the roadway just after 2 a.m. Friday. The pedestrian was then hit by a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrian has since been identified as 25-year-old Ashley M. Corrado of Peoria.

Southbound I-17 traffic was diverted onto Loop 303 during the closure.

At this time, it's unclear why the pedestrian was in the roadway. DPS did not give further information on the driver who struck the pedestrian, but say a vehicle was found nearby that may have been involved in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
