PHOENIX — A 74-year-old man has died after he was struck by a BMW sedan Sunday night at a north Phoenix intersection, police say.

According to Phoenix police, the driver of the sedan was in the left turn lane attempting to go northbound on 43rd Avenue from Union Hills on a green light.

The driver was waiting for traffic to clear, and once it did, he made a left turn and struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street with the white 'walk' signal.

Police say the 41-year-old driver of the sedan remained at the scene, and it was determined he was not impaired.

The 74-year-old pedestrian, identified as Raymond Lounsbury, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Police said Tuesday morning that Lounsbury had succumbed to his injuries.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
