Phoenix Police homicide detectives are trying to figure out what happened to man whose body was found near a hiking trail on Peoria and 7th Avenues Tuesday evening.
A group of hikers called 911 around 7:30 p.m. and reported that they found a man face-down and bleeding from the head.
Fire department officials said this death was likely not heat-related, but it appears that it may have been a suicide. Phoenix Police are treating the death as a homicide until they have proven otherwise.
Phoenix police said there was no destress call or 911 call made from the man before his body was discovered.
