The Phoenix Police Department says two teenage brothers are dead after being hit by a car in Phoenix Friday night.

The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. near Tatum Boulevard and Desert Cove Avenue.

They have been identified as 15-year-old Roger Gamez-Rodriguez and 17-year-old Iran Gamez.

Sergeant Mercedes Fortune said both teens were walking in the area when they were hit.

Witnesses on scene reported that the victims were brothers, police say.

America Troupe and and Marielys Vega, both 16, say they knew the boys since 8th grade.

"They were just the type of people that put others above themselves, and always tried to make you feel happy," said Vega.

Troupe said, " They would do anything for anyone..they didn't deserve this."

Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the collision, police say.
