FD: Car crashes into tree, catches fire near 35th Avenue and Indian School Road

PHOENIX — Two people are in serious condition after a car crashed into a tree and caught fire near 35th Avenue and Indian School Road, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

The Phoenix Fire Department responded to a crash near 35th Avenue and Indian School Road around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday to find a car that had caught fire after crashing into a tree.

According to Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department, the driver of the vehicle, Alondra Cervantes Natividad, 24, was traveling westbound on the Indian School Access road onto north 35th Avenue when she failed to "control the speed to avoid a collision" and crashed into a large palm tree.

Police say the driver, as well as three other passengers in the vehicle, were removed from the burning car with the help of nearby witnesses.

Among those in the vehicle was an 18-month-old boy, who did not sustain any injuries, according to Phoenix police. However, a 15-year-old boy and 23-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the collision.

Cervantes Natividad showed signs of impairment and was arrested for aggravated assault and aggravated DUI, according to Phoenix police.
