PHOENIX — A person is dead after police say they crossed a busy street against a green light.

Paramedics with the Phoenix Fire Department were called to Camelback Road and 16th Street Thursday night for reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

Phoenix police say the pedestrian, identified as a 41-year-old woman, was attempting to cross Camelback Road against the signal when she was struck by a 2016 Hyundai Tucson.

She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her name hasn’t been released.

Authorities say the driver, a 24-year-old woman, remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment. Police say there was evidence that the pedestrian was impaired.
