PHOENIX — A 71-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was struck twice by a car Wednesday night outside Sky Harbor Airport.

Phoenix police Sgt. Vince Lewis said an Uber driver was dropping off a passenger at the south curb of Terminal 4 around 6 p.m., but failed to place his vehicle in park, and struck the victim as he got out of his car.

The man then sat back down in his vehicle and reversed direction, hitting another car that had pulled in behind him. Lewis said the driver then went forward again, and struck the 71-year-old woman a second time.

She was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but is expected to survive.

Lewis said the driver remained at the scene, and showed no signs of impairment. The collision is currently under review.

The south curb outside Terminal 4 was closed for nearly three hours, but major airport operations were not affected.
