The Phoenix Suns honored the son of a Valley soldier during Saturday night’s game.
Kai Abella has been so strong while his father has been on his 4th deployment. So, to recognize this family’s sacrifice, the Suns provided a few gifts for him, one of which was wrapped in a big box.
When Kai opened his final and biggest gift, he was surprised to find his dad. The crowd erupted in applause, cheers and of course some tears when Kai realized his father was finally home.
Kai’s father, Sgt. Omar Abella, wasn’t expecting what he saw either.
“I was shocked. I was surprised. I didn't realize he was so big. I'm speechless right now,” Omar said.
Now that they’re together, Kai and his father plan to go swimming, golfing and, of course, watching the Suns take on the Memphis Grizzlies courtside.
The surprise reunion was coordinated thanks to the Sanderson Ford’s Seats for Soldiers campaign.
