Two people killed in a crash near 31st Avenue and Indian School

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department is investigating a deadly crash near 31st Avenue and Indian School Road.

Phoenix police say the incident happened Saturday morning around 11:30 a.m.

According to police, a Chrysler 300 driven by 23-year-old, Elidio Saenz traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Indian School Road when it hit a Toyota Scion that was attempting to make a left hand turn onto 31st Avenue.

27-year-old Wilder Uriel Diaz-Gomez and 18-year-old Yahir Uriel-Diaz in the Scion, were both taken to the hospital and later died from their injuries, according to police.

The Saenz was also hospitalized with serious injuries and released from the hospital Sunday at around 4 p.m.

Detectives say they developed probable cause during the investigation and arrested Saenz on manslaughter charges.

Police say impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

No charges have been filed yet, but the investigation remains ongoing.
