A 54-year-old Phoenix man faces several counts of child sex abuse after two girls have accused him of touching them inappropriately when they were young.

Robert Castro was arrested on September 24 near 7th Avenue and Washington Street and booked into jail under suspicion of child molestation, sexual conduct with a minor and luring a minor for sexual exploitation.

According to court records, a girl told Phoenix police that Castro touched her private areas multiple times when she was 6 or 7 years old. This allegedly occurred between 1999 and 2000.

The report was filed in 2009 and Castro denied the allegations in interviews with detectives.

In July 2015, a second victim reported to police that Castro was an old neighbor and she believed he sexually abused her when she was 7 to 10 years old.

The second victim told police that Castro would let her sit on his lap while he drove down the road and he would then touch her inapplicably, records show.

After his arrest, Castro reportedly told police he thought the interview was related to the first report, but requested a public defender when he was informed that there had been a second report from a second victim.
