PHOENIX — Police say a Valley man is behind bars after allegedly attacking a 72-year-old woman at a psychiatric hospital in Phoenix.

Authorities say 42-year-old Jeffery Mollett was arrested Saturday for the incident at the Haven Behavioral Psychiatric Hospital near 7th Avenue and Buckeye Road.

The suspect and victim were both residents of the center, according to Phoenix Police Sgt. Maggie Cox. Court records show that the victim has been at the facility for one week, while Saturday was Mollett’s first day there.

At about 4:30 a.m., a hospital employee was doing her rounds and reportedly saw Mollett on top of the woman, naked from the waist down, court records show. Surveillance video allegedly shows that Mollett was in the victim’s room for about 20 minutes before he was discovered.

Police say the victim pointed to her genitals and told them, “He did something there.” A medical exam later confirmed that the victim had been sexually assaulted.

Mollett faces three counts of sexual assault, one count of kidnapping, and one count of sexual abuse, according to court records.

He remained in custody on a $100,000 bond as of Sunday evening.
