Authorities say one person was hurt in a crash that closed a portion of Central Avenue Saturday evening.

Phoenix police said two vehicles were heading west on Osborn Road around 6:30 p.m. A third vehicle traveling north on Central failed to stop at the red light and crashed into the westbound vehicles around 6:30 p.m.

The vehicle traveling north then crashed into the pole in the center of Central Avenue's light rail tracks, police said.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was initially said to have extremely critical injuries, but an update from Phoenix police Saturday night said they were later determined to be non-life threatening. Those in the westbound vehicles were not seriously hurt.

Light rail service was also interrupted due to the crash. Valley Metro buses connected riders traveling between Thomas and Indian School. Rail service resumed around 9:30 p.m., Valley Metro said.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.

The area was expected to be closed down for a couple of hours, police said.
