DPS: Driver dies after crashing into business near 16th Street and Colter

PHOENIX — A man is dead after crashing into a central Phoenix business on Thursday afternoon.

Department of Public Safety officials said the man was exiting the southbound lanes of State Route 51 at Colter Street but failed to yield and struck another vehicle and a wrong way sign before crashing into a business on the south side side of Colter Street.

He was reportedly thrown from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

DPS officials said there were no other injuries involved in the crash.

The Colter Street exit on State Route 51 southbound was closed for several hours while officers investigated; as well as Colter Street from 16th to 18th streets due to the crash.

The off-ramp was reopened around 9:30 p.m.
