City of Phoenix officials say the union that represents area bus operators will vote on a final contract offer next week.

The Phoenix Public Transit Department says Transdev, one of the city's contracted bus service providers, gave what it says is the best and final offer on Wednesday to the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1433.

The union is scheduled to vote on the proposed contract between Oct. 7 and Oct. 9.

Union members have approved authorization to strike if necessary.

Officials say a strike would disrupt bus service for nearly three dozen routes throughout Phoenix.

Previous bargaining agreements expired at the end of June but were extended through Wednesday.

City transportation officials say passengers can check the city website or Valley Metro's site for updates if a strike takes place.
