PHOENIX — Police are investigating after two men were shot early Thursday morning in Phoenix.

Officers were called to the area of 48th Street and McDowell Road around 1:40 a.m. where the shooting took place.

Police say two men, Davontaj Johnson, 28, and William Gordon, 33, were involved in a physical altercation. At some point during the fight, Gordon and another unnamed suspect allegedly hit Johnson, rendering him unconscious.

While Johnson was unconscious, Gordon and the unnamed suspect stole his property, police say. When Johnson woke up, he armed himself with a handgun and went to look for Gordon and the other man.

While he was looking for the men, Johnson encountered another man who was not involved in the altercation. Johnson allegedly shot the man in the leg before continuing his search for the suspects.

Johnson was able to find the unidentified suspect and reportedly shot him. Police say he drove away, but returned to the scene when officers arrived.

Johnson was booked into jail for aggravated assault of the unknown victim, police say. Gordon was also located and also arrested for aggravated assault.

Police say when the unidentified suspect is released from the hospital, he will be booked for robbery.
